No Backbone...

The Vitality Game - Ben jij (ook) een meestribbelaar?

"Maybe I just have no backbone…" That's what she said. This, after she had just completed the playful '3-minute pop-up quiz' with 20 questions tailored to her behavior regarding nutrition and lifestyle, ending with a solid 'A-'. I can hear you thinking: "Huh, what? A pop-up quiz, like some sort of test?" "We're not in school anymore, are we?" You're right! I surprised her with it during our online session, and lucky for me, she could laugh about it. I also noticed through my screen that she sat up just a bit more. Ready? Ok, let’s go!

Compassion

Her answers reminded her of how far she has already come. "Nice to see all things that are going well," she says, "I almost forgot about that." A pat on the back is well deserved. And yes, it also reveals where more energy and focus is required. And yes, it also reveals where more energy and focus are required. However, understanding specifically which behavior gets in the way of your goals (weight loss, more energy, etc.) is fascinating and incredibly valuable. It provides you with the opportunity to thoroughly examine and change that behavior - with compassion."

Headspace
During our sessions, we've worked on knowledge about nutrition and lifestyle, how she can support her body instead of working against it, her relationship with food, and much more. We discuss that the real game is finding ways that give her the headspace to make those better choices. Also - or especially - in the hustle and bustle of daily life. As often as needed until it becomes a new habit. With the reward that all the benefits are hers.

Bounce

We zoom even deeper into what can help her with this. "Maybe I just have no backbone…" she says with a sigh, searching for a way out. I casually ask her what her biggest win, so far, is? "Pulling myself back together," she suddenly says firmly, surprising herself. Because even though she's not yet where she wants to be, she feels that she's made a tough decision here and she's not planning on giving up. I believed her from the start, but more importantly, she now believes it herself. Unaware of it - as she says this - she straightens her back again. How beautiful is that?
